Biography

Trond Espen Seim is a Norwegian actor, educated in 1996 from Oslo National Academy of Theatre. After graduation, he was assigned at the Rogaland Theatre and The National Scene. At The National Scene, he among other roles played the lead in “A Clockwork Orange”, for which he won the Norwegian theatre prize ‘Hedda’. In 2001 he was hired by The National Theatre where he acted in plays such as “Woyzeck”, “Medea” and “Variations of Death”. In the fall of 2004, together with Jon Øigarden and Mads Ousdal, he took over the creative responsibility for the theatre Torshovsteatret. Trond Esben reached international fame when he won the “Shooting Star” award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2005. In 2006, it was announced that Trond Espen was going to play the private detective Varg Veum in a new feature film and TV-series based on the crime books by author Gunnar Staalesen. From 2007 to 2012, 12 films were produced, all starring Trond Esben as the lead. He was nominated for an Amanda Award in 2004 for “Varg Veum – Black Money, White Lies” and in 2008 he won an Amanda Award for “Varg Veum – Fallen Angels” as the best male actor.

He has a significant role in the successful NRK TV series “Mammon” (season 2), and he is the lead role in the German/South African produced TV series “Cape Town”, adapted from the bestselling books by the same name. He is a significant series regular role in TV series ‘The Acquitted’ (2nd season), which is a hot rating success in Scandinavia. Trond Espen has also played the role of Ivar in the Norwegian/German produced feature film “Hevn”. He is a series regular in DR1’s award winning TV-series “The Legacy” for 3 seasons. Trond Espen is an experienced actor on stage. He is the lead role in many classics and musicals. Recently he was lead role in the Australian play “Helicopter” at The National Theatre in Oslo, director Cecilie Mosli.
